Sadly I have no pictures of this night because I forgot my camera but my sister was and I haven't asked to use it.
So that being said let's dive into the "lovely" day that was Halloween 2012 for the Runkel family.
That morning, after Chrispy left and Christian was picked up by the bus (fashionably late), my brother-in-law came to pick up my daughter so she and his daughter could play and I didn't have to worry about her when I went to the OBGYN. Lovely start to the day.
Until I was somehow 10 minutes late for my appointment. I know it was my fault so I could only blame myself. Then while I was there I was told that a bill that we shouldn't have paid will not be reimbursed unless we call the corporation that billed us because all they can do is email the place. So basically we've waited for nothing for the past 2 months or more. At the end of the day Chrispy said, "Forget it, we already paid."
Then I leave to go shopping. Not so bad and pretty typical for a shopping trip without kids.
Nayeli and then Christian get home. Christian had a half day of Halloween fun at school (meaning he got to dress up, eat treats, play games, and be in a costume parade after lunch time). He was only able take his Iron Man gloves and "suit", the mask had to stay home. When I was getting the kids ready to go Trick or Treating he told me he had lost his gloves at school.
This is when my attitude started down hill. I wasn't happy since we bought them for Trick or Treating and now couldn't use them. Not to mention he said he "lost" them instead of "left" them at school and I was lucky to find gloves that fit his small hands. Plus I think I was tired from shopping, so that didn't help.
Before we left I couldn't find my straw hat for my punkin farmer costume. Not a trace. Found out Chrispy threw it away without telling or asking me. Not a huge deal unless you put it into account that looking for the darn thing made us later than we already were. Thanks Hubby! I also wanted to take a wagon that we got Nayeli for Christmas a while back but that was filled with random things in the garage. Kind of a disappointment but my fault for not clearing it earlier.
We get in the car and leave for the Supers Mall to Trick or Treat there. After we park I have to get the rest of Nayeli's costume on her, like the wig with the crown and horn, and wings. The wings had been previously torn a bit down the middle on the night we did the Trunk-R-Treat. Also the air-dried clay horn had fallen off and broke on the ground at the Trunk-R-Treat but I was able to re-attach it by putting duck tape on the little nub that held the horn to the crown, but unable to fix the tip of the horn that broke off. So before Halloween night, I fashioned a new horn made of a different material, the Crayola Model Magic stuff, when dried turns into a kind of foam like solid. I thought using this new stuff would be lighter and easier to stick to the crown.
As I put on Nayeli's crown/wig the tip of the horn rubs against my protruding tummy and falls off. I just about lost it, I was so frustrated. I put the wings on her while Christian is in the background playing with his candy bucket, making it fall to the ground and annoying my ears.
We walk up to the mall, really late, and the whole time it looks like Nayeli's wings keep poking her in one shoulder which I try so hard to fix but never get to, and both kids keep wondering into the middle of the road which I yell at them to get to the side.
I'm such a loving mother, aren't I? (Sarcasm included and question is rhetorical)
We finally met up with my brother, his wife, their 2 little kids, and my sister, her husband and their 2 little kids. Upon seeing my face they knew I was in a horrible mood and tried to help- keeping my kids in line as we walk through half the mall and making sure they were polite with every candy giver.
During that time Nayeli's horn started to droop and upon looking at it, it tore at the base and came off. Apparently it was too soft a material. Finally I gave up and tore the nub that held the horn to the crown/wig, and Nayeli ended up just a Princess..with horse ears. Also Christian was frustratingly NOT listening to a word I said. Even after 5 times, he still never got it. At dinner I told him and Nayeli to eat their fruit since their chicken nuggets were too hot while I go get my own dinner. When I came back he still hadn't touched a thing and asked me, "Can I eat my fruit? Ellie ate hers."
Can I get an Oi?!
After the mall my sister and I decided we'd go show Gma Lynn and Gpa Lon (my parents) the kids' costumes. My brother and his family left for home since their kids were just done for the night. So as we pull out of the mall parking lot, (NOTE: I told both children 5 times we're going to Grandma's) Christian asked, "Are we going to Aunt Lindsey's house?"
I was so frustrated with his lack of listening that I asked my daughter, "Ellie, do you know where we're going?" She said, "Yes." I said, "Please tell Christian where we're going!" And she says, "We're going to Grandma's!"
At least one of them listened to me that night.
You would think the "fun" would end there. No, Christian ended up hitting Gpa Lon in the face with some candy because Christian didn't tell Gpa he was throwing something. Oh and the last wardrobe malfunction for Nayeli's costume was the purple gem coming off her necklace after we got home. She was not meant to be Princess Celestia after this year, I guess.
Needless to say this Halloween probably stunk like burning hair or something like it so- Thank Heaven it's over!
